Bisphenol A-free Milk Storage Bottles

Bisphenol A or BPA, is widely used in plastic food and drink containers – including some baby bottles, but there is growing concern that it poses a health threat to young children and babies, possibly causing hormone problems.

Recent research carried out in the US states that bisphenol A - can cause potentially dangerous alterations to cardiac rhythm. This latest report is one of a long line of bad press for the controversial chemical that many believe is linked to early puberty, breast cancer, miscarriage and infertility.

In 2008 the Canadian Government banned the sale of baby bottles containing BPA. The scientists concluded that bisphenol A exposure to newborns and infants is below levels that cause effects; however still took the action to enhance the protection of infants and young children.

In Britain, the Food Standards Agency says the amount of BPA in plastic products is ‘well below the levels considered harmful’, and refused to ban the use of the chemical, much to the disappointment of The National Childbirth Trust and Friends of the Earth.

In addition, the EFSA decided that the dose of BPA consumed by a baby using a bottle is so low that it does not pose any health risk.
It said its expert panel has concluded that 'after exposure to BPA the human body rapidly metabolises and eliminates the substance.
