Allergy Free Nipple Cream

Everyday Maternity is proud to retail Lansinoh products and even more so now since Lansinoh Lanolin has becomes the only nipple cream to be awarded the British Allergy Foundation Seal of Approval.

Upto 90% of breastfeeding women experience nipple soreness, and they need reassurance that any cream they apply will be acceptable to their baby.

Lansinoh Lanolin has received the endorsement of the British Allergy Foundation by becoming the only lanolin to be awarded its Seal of Approval. This confirms that Lansinoh Lanolin is more suitable for allergy sufferers as it has been scientifically proven to reduce exposure to allergens. In a clinical trial conducted amongst a lanolin sensitive population, Lansinoh HPA Lanolin showed 0% allergic reaction.

Studies suggest that up to 90% of breastfeeding women suffer nipple soreness, and that this is one of the most common reasons for giving up breastfeeding. The preferred treatment for sore and cracked nipples is moist wound healing, in conjunction with help to address the cause of the condition. Lanolin provides an ideal moist wound healing environment, but there are concerns relating to allergic reactions to some grades of lanolin.

Lanolin is produced from the secretions of the sebaceous glands of sheep, and comes from the fleece of sheep after shearing. Lanolin allergy does exist however the allergen responsible is present in the free lanolin alcohol portion of the lanolin. Moreover, when free lanolin alcohols are present in a significant amount, even relatively small amounts of detergent residues are sufficient to increase the incidence of allergy. In other words, free fatty alcohols and detergent together in lanolin have a stronger allergic effect than either singly.

Lansinoh HPA Lanolin is produced using a unique proprietary process, and guarantees a free lanolin alcohol proportion of less than 1.5%. In addition, Lansinoh is the only company in the world to test its lanolin for detergent residues and it contains less than 0.05%. Other medical grades of lanolin are only able to guarantee a free lanolin alcohol proportion of below 6%, and no specification is set for detergent residues.

Clinical trials clearly indicate that in lanolin containing 6.5% free lanolin alcohols, 41% of a lanolin sensitive population will experience an allergic response. Allergic reactions have been documented at 3%, as well as at 2.2%. Only when free lanolin alcohol levels are reduced to 1.5%, combined with negligible detergent residues, have researchers failed to elicit a single allergic response in lanolin sensitive patients.

Lansinoh HPA Lanolin contains no preservatives, no antioxidants, no water, no chemicals and no perfume. Mothers can be confident in the knowledge that Lansinoh HPA Lanolin does not need to be removed before breastfeeding, and is the safest, purest lanolin in the world.
